According to LGBT campaigners Brighton police have waited almost two weeks before appealing for witnesses to an attack on a lesbian couple which happened on the 7th October.
The couple, aged 18 and 22, were first subjected to verbal homophobic abuse before they were both viciously attacked as they walked holding hands. Both women were punched in the face.
LGBT activists have called on the police to do more to prosecute those who commit such hate crimes. James Ledward, editor of gay magazine Gscene, said police should focus more on convictions rather than on mechanisms for reporting such offences.
