Senior German politician Peter Langner, has apologised for saying he did not want a gay foreign minister. Langer made the remark after his Party, the SPD, were convincingly defeated in recent elections.
His offensive comment was directed at Guido Westerwelle, whose liberal FDP is to form a government coalition with the Christian Democrats led by Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Langer's remarks have been wholly condemned by gay rights groups as 'grossly insensitive' given the history of the persecution and murder of countless homosexuals by the Nazis.
