The US’ largest publisher of newspapers for gays and lesbians has shut down and plans to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. “It is with great regret that we must inform that effective immediately, the operations of Window Media LLC and United Media LLC have closed down,” the publisher said in a statement.
Window Media claims more than 40,000 readers every week for its publications, which include the Southern Voice, Houston Voice, David Atlanta, South Florida Blade and 411 Magazine, in addition to the Washington Blade – the oldest US newspaper for gays and lesbians.
“From my understanding, there was just no more money to keep these companies running,” said Laura Douglas-Brown, an editor at the Southern Voice, in a telephone interview with Associated Press.
