During an interview, prior to the opening of the 64th session of the General Assembly, new president Ali Abdussalam Treki said he believed homosexuality "was not acceptable for most of the world"
Treki was responding to a question about where he stood on the UN's Declaration for the Universal Decriminalisation of Homosexuality. The declaration has been signed by only 66 of the 192 UN member states.
The Lesbian & Gay Association have been quick to condemn Treki's views describing his attitude as 'worrying' and demanding he explain his 'failure to consider the protection of the life and safety of LGBT' people worldwide.
