Man Accused of Lesbian Murder Denies Confession

A 20 year old man accused of murdering South African lesbian Zoliswa Nkonyana has said the statement he made to police was false.

Sicelo Mase claims that an investigating officer had promised him indemnity from prosecution if he confessed to the killing. 

The investigating officer however told Khayelitsha Magistrates Court that he had made no such promises to the accused.

Mase is one of nine men on trial for murdering Zoliswa Nkonyana because she was a lesbian. All nine have entered pleas of 'not guilty'.

Ms Nkonyana was killed on 24th February 2006. The trial is on-going.
